Sunlight shone strongly down on a patchwork heap of fur. Several cats lay clumped together, with others curled up just a bit apart from the rest. A black cat slept near the center of the heap, sides rising and falling evenly. Their pattern stuttered, then picked back up, slightly unevenly.
An angular head rose, blue eyes blinking owlishly. Between the warmth of the sun and the warmth of her Clanmates surrounding her, Ravenflower's mind had been scrambled with a sleep-haze. She yawned, climbing carefully to her paws. Her next actions invariably led to an accident and a grumpy cat.
She picked up her slender paws and carefully placed them one by one in the small gaps between sleeping Clanmates. A brown tabbed rolled onto their back, pinning Ravenflower's right forepaw beneath them. Her ears fell back slightly from their upright position. This was generally the cause of her tripping onto a Clanmate. And yet, the lithe black she-cat had not yet learned to avoid the tabby.
Instead, she shifted her stance slightly, and yanked at her paw. Ravenflower's paw popped free, the momentum of her tug transferred into a fall directly onto a gray tabby. She bounced back to her paws, apologies spewing out as the cat hissed at her irritably. After a moment, the gray realized who she was and simply huffed and returned to sleep.
Ravenflower breathed a sigh of mental relief. She'd gotten off lightly this morning. Some mornings, she got her fur lectured off, or a cat would try to claw her in sleepy confusion. A small smile lit her pretty features, and Ravenflower padded to the shore of the little island on which the warriors and apprentices slept and shared tongues. The water was clear and sparkling in the sunlight, inviting the black warrior to take a drink. So she did, sating her thirst and sitting with her tail wrapped around her forepaws afterward.
Her head tipped back to gaze at the sky, and Ravenflower purred slightly. It looked to be a pretty day, one that would be excellent for her favorite duty, hunting. Just thinking of sinking her fangs into a fat rabbit caused her stomach to growl. She glanced around for any other awake cats, eager to suggest a hunting trip.
